Dr. John W. White, Associate Professor of Music at Ithaca College. John remains active as a professional pianist specializing in diversity and is equally at home in the worlds of jazz, classical, and popular music. Highlights of his performing experience include: duo and small group collaborations with jazz vocalist and free improviser Rhiannon; appearances with jazz vocalist Kim Nazarian and jazz instrumentalists performers Wycliffe Gordon, Tony Baker, and Paul Hanson; workshop accompaniment for Dr. Barbara Baker; accompaniment for and free-improvisation collaboration with choreographer Jeanne Goddard; and frequent freelance appearances with numerous musicians in the upstate New York region spanning numerous vernacular styles. Recently John concluded a 16-year tenure as the Music Director and Organist for St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ithaca, NY. Currently he sings bass with the Ithaca-based Bel Lago Chorale. Recently John became the Director of the Ithaca College Jazz Vocal Ensemble.
For the past twenty-one years, Bob Keefe has maintained an active guitar studio of about 38 students a week. He currently teaches at McNeil Music in Ithaca, New York and is a guitar instructor at Cornell University and TC3. Bob holds a PhD in composition from the University of North Texas (formerly NTSU) and has over fifty works to his credit, including three works for orchestra, two rock musicals and a string quartet. Bob has held residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, and the Millay Colony for the Arts. A former student of jazz guitar teacher Jack Petersen, Bob has been active in performing in jazz and rock bands for over four decades. He performs regularly with the Backtalk Band and with his new band Bob Keefe and the Surf Renegades. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Fresno, California, Bob began performing professionally at age fifteen. He has performed with Clark Terry, Phil Woods, Glenn Stuart, Lou Marini, Eugene Friesen, Jack Petersen, Johnny Smith, Mike Harvey, and Steve Morse.
Vocalist Hannah Martin resides in Ithaca, NY working as a private voice teacher, consultant, and clinician. She has performed alongside faculty members of Ithaca College and Ithaca High School, while also giving workshops to students and educators alike to highlight the importance of vocal jazz and contemporary styles within music curriculum. She currently performs with Ithaca based rock and roll band Backtalk, sits in as the drummer for local children’s theatre troupe Running to Places, and plays jazz gigs with various local musicians.
