Marc Garland Harvest Intern 2021 Round Two!
Marc Garland was raised in both Ohio and Florida. In 2007, Marc relocated to the Finger Lakes and has been a resident ever since. A former executive chef, he came to the Finger Lakes to study English at Wells College and later studied viticulture and enology at FLCC. Marc may have come north for school, however when asked why he never returned south he incredulously responded, “I never left because, duh, why would I go back to Florida once I’ve lived here!”
Harvest 2021 is not Marc’s first time with the Red Newt team. In 2015, Marc came to work in the tasting room and also worked as harvest intern. Marc has returned again this year, working in the cellar primarily and then joining the front of house team on the weekends as a wine steward. When it comes to wines, Marc’s background definitely influences his favorite varietal. He says, “Pinot Noir is my favorite because of its acid-tannin balance and the wine’s ability to pair with almost any food.”
Marc has experienced a couple of harvests now, so when asked what his favorite snacks are, he said, “my favorite snack changes every harvest.” Harvest of 2021, his favorite snack are Jolly Ranchers! For his listening pleasure? Marc has eschewed music this harvest for historical podcasts focusing on major past revolutions (“Revolutions” by Mike Duncan) and interviews with various professional scientists (“Ologies” by Allie Ward).
We are so glad Marc returned to join the team once again. He’s a pleasure to work with and always makes us laugh. Work life is never dull and Marc always keeps his cool, even when things don’t go quite as planned. #flxwine Visit Marc on instagram @garlandromes
