The Red Newt VIP Tasting Experience is a vinous treat for anyone. At Red Newt, our passion is wine and the discovery of the personality and history of the wine in the glass. We do this by peering past the preconceptions, and focusing on the personality and expression of the vineyard. Winemaking paths and vinification techniques are part of the discussion, and a delightful food pairing designed by the Bistro chef, Jeremy Personius, is part of the experience. We are excited to share these wines with you!
This tasting is limited to 10 people, by reservation, and is curated exclusively by one of the Red Newt team with in depth insights and commentary on the wines and the food.
November – Thanksgiving pairings
This month we will focus on wines that we think are the perfect match for crisp autumn days and festive Thanksgiving meals. It’s an eclectic group of wines both new and old, and sure to please!
2009 Red Newt Cellars Dry Riesling
This well aged Riesling has the maturity and poise to satisfy. The 2009 vintage offered up loads of bright, crisp fruit that is balanced by vibrant expressions of tangerine and apricot. It was one of the best Riesling vintages of the decade, with a sumptuous combination of ripe, expressive fruit and focused acidity. Wine Spectator 87 points
2012 Red Newt Riesling – Sawmill Creek Vineyards, south block
Palate is crisp, with attack of mineral, lemon pith and nectarine. Nose is ethereal, with notes of vanilla, fruit distillation tails and kiwi. Medium phenolic that is persistent start to finish: very fine and slightly styptic… nice. Overall, an understated but forward wine with light texture, firm weight and tight structure. Youthful. Wine Advocate 92 points
2016 Kelby James Russell Rose of Cabernet Franc
Just because winter is on its way does not mean to forget about Rose wines. In fact, this wine is great to enjoy year ‘round, and a perfect pairing with an autumnal Thanksgiving feast. Wine Advocate 90 points
2010 Red Newt Gewurztraminer
It’s hard to imagine a better companion on a cool fall afternoon, or brisk winter evening that a bottle of rich, luscious Gewurztraminer. 2010 was a very warm, sunny, and damp vintage that led to very ripe, mature Gewurztraminer. It’s a perfect match to that traditional T-day meal.
2008 Cabernet Franc – Glacier Ridge Vineyards
2008 has been one of the unsung star vintages for FLX Cabernet Franc. Grown in a cooler year, this Cabernet Franc from our premier vineyard shows plump, ripe fruit with the perfect balance of spice, smoke and baked red fruit. And for the perfect food pairing? … you guessed it! Wine & Spirits Magazine 90 points
