The Red Newt VIP Tasting Experience is a vinous treat for anyone. At Red Newt, our passion is wine and the discovery of the personality and history of the wine in the glass. We do this by peering past the preconceptions, and focusing on the personality and expression of the vineyard. Winemaking paths and vinification techniques are part of the discussion, and a delightful food pairing designed by the Bistro chef, Jeremy Personius, is part of the experience. We are excited to share these wines with you!
This tasting is limited to 10 people, by reservation, and is curated exclusively by one of the Red Newt team with in depth insights and commentary on the wines and the food.
The Month of October is dedicated to how sugar integrates in wine. We look at the relationship between sugar and acid, and how age affects this relationship.
2014 Dry Riesling Kelby James Russell
The 2014 Kelby James Russell Riesling was inspired by the style of one of the world’s great and overlooked Riesling producing countries, Australia. Made with 100% Riesling from the rich fruit of Lahoma Vineyard on Seneca Lake, it is our twist on an age-worthy style. Bone dry and electric on the palate with notes of honey and lime on the nose, this Riesling explores how modified Australian techniques are expressed with Finger Lakes fruit. 92+ Vinous
2014 Dry Riesling
Fresh and lively this Riesling is well balanced with aromas of lemon and flint and a palate of juicy apple, apricot and lemon pith. Yellow grapefruit and quince in the mid-palate, and lovely acidity. Well balanced phenolics.
2010 Circle Riesling
The 2010 vintage offered up loads of bright crisp fruit balanced by vibrant expressions of peach and apricot with hints of white grapefruit.
2011 Lahoma Vineyards
A long, warm growing season in 2011 yielded plenty of ripe flavors and natural sugar ripeness. Bouts of rain at harvest time introduced richness and complexity of botrytis. The warmer vintage provided Red Newt Riesling the opportunity to express warmer vintage characteristics such as honey, baked apricots, and luscious red apples while still retaining their traditional acid backbone.
2012 Gewurztraminer – Curry Creek
Yellow gold with highlights of bright lemon. Fruit forward with broiled grapefruit and limoncello with hints of cardamon spice. On the mid-palate flavors of lemon curd and spiced orange peel dance around the sweet grapefruit characters. Plush and focused with hints of sweetness wrapped in an overall creamy mouthfeel. Finish: Grapefruit, lemon pith, clementine and coriander spice with a lingering warm finish. Aging Trajectory: Now through 2020 88 Wine Enthusiast – 88 Wine Spectator – 86 Vinous
