The Red Newt VIP Tasting Experience is a vinous treat for anyone.  At Red Newt, our passion is wine and the discovery of the personality and history of the wine in the glass.  We do this by peering past the preconceptions, and focusing on the personality and expression of the vineyard.  Winemaking paths and vinification techniques are part of the discussion, and a delightful food pairing designed by the Bistro chef, Jeremy Personius, is part of the experience.   We are excited to share these wines with you!

This tasting is limited to 10 people, by reservation, and is curated exclusively by one of the Red Newt team with in depth insights and commentary on the wines and the food.

September – The variation of the vineyards

2013 Riesling – Tango Oaks Vineyard

This Riesling features exotic aromas of grapefruit, Pippin Apple, and nectarine that hide a surprisingly dry and crisp mid palate with flavors of white peach and thai basil.  Canberra International Riesling Challenge – BEST AMERICAN RIESLING – 91 Wine Advocate – 91+Vinous

2013 Riesling – Lahoma Vineyard – the Knoll

A warm and relatively wet year led to explosive vegetative growth and a heavier fruit set than is typical.  Pristine looking vineyard on a well drained knoll above the rest of Lahoma Vineyards; yields were 50% above average.  Pristine vineyard   Farmed mostly in the manner of Harlan Fulkerson; meticulous mowing, hedging, and weed control.   Canberra International Riesling Challenge 2016  93 points – 89  Vinous –  87 Wine Enthusiast

2012 Riesling – Sawmill Creek Vineyards – Fred Block

Wine is rich, with golden raisin, quince and meyer lemon in palate.  Textures are smooth and firm, with very little phenolic impact in the early and mid palate.  Late in the palate, light astringency helps to tighten a long and supple finish.  Finish is complex with hints of pineapple, peach, fruit cocktail.  Overall, wine is very well composed, showing positive bottle age, perhaps on first plateau.  Good vibrancy and intensity overall. 93 Wine Advocate – 91 Vinous – 90 Wine & Spirits

2007 Gewurztraminer – Curry Creek Vineyards

Honeysuckle and quince in nose with a palate that is warm, tight and mouth-filling.  A weighty single vineyard wine from a warm, dry vintage, produced from one of the Finger Lakes preeminent grape growers – John Santos. 89 Wine Spectator – 88 Wine Advocate

2010 Merlot – Glacier Ridge Vineyard

The nose is blackberry jam and oak charcoal. Palate is dense with firm, fine tannins.  Tannins are persistent through palate and dusty, not bitter, not stale in finish. Acid is medium through palate, supporting dark berry fruit with smoke/charcoal complexities.  Showing nice age, but youthful.
